Project Description

Overlooking one of the New York City's grandest intersections of 34th Street, Broadway and 6th Avenue, known as Herald Square, AIC was awarded the contract to manage a massive façade renovation for the Herald Center Department Stores. The building contains over 400 feet of frontage on Broadway/6th Ave, 34th Street and 33rd Street, with multiple angles, setbacks and entrances. In order to support the new Curtainwall design, AIC had to rebuild and reinforce several of the base building structures, including concrete encasement of columns, new steel beams and supports, and new electrical services. The tight footprint of the jobsite required use of a building long monorail system to stage, lift and set curtainwall panels, all within a sidewalk shed enclosure. After the new facade was completed from the ground to the 4th floor, AIC was also contracted to install a series of LED fins and rails on the 5th9th floors of the building, which now project a nightly light show over Herald Square.
